Fuzion, aka Corey Mallinson is being hailed as one of the UK’s foremost Dubstep prodigies. At the young age of 16, he’s already starting to make a solid name for himself in the Dubstep scene. His latest single ‘Light Up’ has received great support from Radio 1 Xtra’s MistaJam and his collaboration with the ever popular SubVibe on (’30 Million’) is set to turn heads yet again with it’s official release on 3oth January on Fieded Records.
We asked Corey how it all started and to give us an insight on what it takes to produce a Dubstep tune.
1: Tell us how you came across Dubstep and why you wanted to start producing?
I was introduced to Dubstep through some friends a few years ago when it wasn’t very big. At first I wasn’t too keen on it but then I came across the early Datsik/Excision style and from then on its probably become my favourite genre. I never really wanted to start producing, it sort of just happened by accident. I’ve never had any previous musical experience at all, so it was quite a random choice. I was just bored browsing the internet and somehow came across Reason 5 and decided to pick up a copy. Within a few days I was really getting hooked on production so I decided to stick it out!

2: You recently signed to the record label Fieded! How did that feel and did you have any offers from other labels?
Correct! It was great signing to a label run by a very big producer (Fei-Fei) who has managed to get me some support from big artists. I’ve had some offers in the past but i’ve always wanted to wait it out for a decent label to offer me a deal, which I never thought would happen haha! But now i’m on Feided it should mean I can put some big releases out!
3: Your next single ’30 Million’ is due for an official release on the 30th January. Will this be part of an EP and what was it like working with SubVibe.
It will be available on the 30th January on Beatport with another SubVibe collaboration titled ‘Parasites’ which you can find on Youtube. Working with SubVibe was really cool, i learnt loads of new techniques as they are really talented. Our styles seem to work together fairly well so it was really comfortable working with them as they are also really chilled guys!

4: When making a track, where do you get your inspiration from and can you quickly talk us through the production process?
I always start a track with a quick idea in mind but it never ends up how I plan haha! I usually start out loading up some pads, leads, keys and whatever else, then ill sit and try and write some intros to get the track started. After this i’ll throw in some drums and sound FX and build the intro up with more sounds. Then ill work on the drop either with sounds i’ve already made or I may resample something and work from there as it makes it quicker and less stressful. Also I kind of mix & master as I go along rather than chucking everything in and then mixing down which can be good and bad because it takes more time but then I don’t have to deal with lots of mastering issues at the end!

5: What has 2012 got in store for Fuzion and will you be collaborating with any big names?
Well as mentioned, I have ’30 Million’ & ‘Parasites’ out 30th January on Feided and i also have a track with a trance singer called Cat Martin out later this year along with remixes from SubVibe & Bustrexx. Besides that i’ll just see what tracks I end up making and maybe try get some vocalists on them. I don’t have many collabs planned but I am working on one with Vexare who is a very very sick producer check him out!!.. That tune should be up on Youtube soon and we’ll post release details once we decide what’s happening 🙂
