As Datsik and his Firepower Records crew blaze across America on their mammoth tour, their mission to champion a new wave of young talent is continuing apace. For the next EP on the label the floor is being opened up to 18 year-old Baltimore-based heavy hitter Rekoil. Set for release on 23rd October, ‘Reloaded’ is certain to put the young producer on the map.
Jumpstarting the EP is wrecking ball opener ‘4-matic’ that sets the scene with its haunting intro before Rekoil unleashes a volley of industrial-strength bass that is enough to knock you off your feet. Quickly taking a left turn, ‘Pretzel Twista’ reveals a warmer side to Rekoil’s production as 8-bit melodies intertwine with processed piano chords only to break down into a heavy glitched-out swing, exploring a unique style that demonstrate’s Rekoil’s attention to detail and on-point production. On ‘One Last Time’ the young producer teams up with Symbiotic on production duties and Maksim on the mic to deliver an uncompromising techy monster rammed with whipcrack snares and heavy bass drops.
Continuing to pack the heat, ‘Fat Tub Of Goo’ switches things up with a fresh combination of murky atmospheres and warping bass, while Rekoil buddies up with Firepower releasee Barron on ‘Doomsday’, a track that carries all the power that its name suggests. The epic intro rolls in on the bombast of its militaristic drums and expansive horns before giving way to a punishing onslaught of maniacal bass and cavernous drums. Concluding the EP without taking his foot off the pedal, Rekoil’s remix of Devour – ‘Pistol Grip’ ups the tempo, taking the cornerstones of his sound and rewiring them around the switching rhythms.
